Meet the Scottish Disability Team

Director: Paul Brown

Photo of Paul Brown. Paul oversees all activities of the Scottish Disability Team. As with his previous post of SHEFC National Co-ordinator for Students with Disabilities, Paul provides support to individual Co-ordinators/Advisers and facilitates both National and Regional Networks.

He is a member of a number of committees and advisory groups with key external organisations, including SKILL, the General Teaching Council and TechDis. Important aspects of Paul's role include supporting institutions in issues surrounding Conditions of Grant and 'SMART' action planning, providing information and advice to the Council Executive on issues arising from institutional strategic plans and assisting the funding council with the development and implementation of strategic plans for disability issues.

Paul is also responsible for the devising and delivery of SDT training.

Academic Supervisor: Professor Alan Newell

Photo of Alan Newell. Professor Newell has been researching into computer systems to assist people with disabilities for over thirty years. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and has been awarded an MBE for services to IT and communication for disabled people.

He has been Paul Brown's academic supervisor since Paul became the National Co-ordinator, and a member of CEDAG since its inception. He was responsible for the establishment of the Queen Mother Research Centre for Information Technology to Support Older People, opened in 2005 as the new home of the School of Computing at Dundee University.
